Description:

Of exaggerated globular form, with waisted flared foot and rim, painted in deep underglaze blue with four medallions, two depicting a sage seated in contemplation in a mountain landscape accepting offerings of a bird and a vase of flowers, and two depicting a sage pointing the way towards a rocky outcrop, in one he is accompanied by an attendant holding a fan. These alternate with small square panels of fishermen by a river, reserved on a dense Iznik type foliate scroll ground below a similar patterned band at the neck, above a flowerhead and crashing wave band at the foot, the domed cover decorated with four medallions on a similar ground.

Period: Tianqi (1621 - 1627)
