Of Middle-Eastern metal shape, with a moulded round pear-shaped body, a long waisted and galleried neck, rounded handle, gently s-shaped spout, tall flared foot and a domed moulded cover, finely decorated in the Imari palette in underglaze blue and overglaze iron-red and gold with on each side of the body a moulded panel shaped as a lotus and decorated with a lotus flower in gold, surrounded by small stylized leaves all on an iron-red ground, the panel surrounded by further finely painted tall flowers issuing from the base of the panel and stretching up on each side, the waisted, galleried neck with long moulded petal shaped panels, painted around the shoulder with scattered flowers in iron-red and gold, the neck divided at the waisted centre by a moulded band decorated in a fish-roe pattern, below and above the band a collar of pendant and upright leaves drawn with blue lines, the petal shaped panels above the moulded band outlined in blue, the s-shaped spout moulded at the end with thin bands and painted with a flowering branch in dark blue, the rounded handle similarly decorated with a climbing branch, around the base of the ewer, above the foot, a moulded band of short upright petal-shaped panels decorated with single flower sprays in iron-red or gold, the flared foot with two raised bands, one with stylized flower-heads and small leaves and the other with geometric shapes, the recessed base glazed, the domed cover surmounted by a finial tipped in gold.

An identical ewer in shape, part of a pair with matching covers, but painted in iron-red and gold is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Museum number 240B&C-1876, 240&A-1876, the pair was bought at 25 pounds and 5 shillings, Lord Bexley's sale, Lot 58, illustrated in Kerr, Rose and Luisa E. Mengoni Chinese Export Ceramics London: V&A Publishing, 2011, p.108, pl.152. Another ewer also in iron-red but with a non-matching cover is illustrated in Regina Krahl and John Ayres, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum Istambul, vol. III, no. 2919, p. 935.
